Un poco del Chocó is a private conservation project in the Northwest of Ecuador which was founded in 2009 by the German Biologist Nicole Büttner (MSc) and her Ecuadorian husband Wilo Vaca.

While the 15 hectares nature reserve contributes to the conservation of the endangered Chocó-habitat, the biological station promotes education and research.

At the biological station students get the opportunity to enrich their studies with a biological internship abroad.

Interns gain valuable practical skills and get hands-on experience in biological field work whilst learning about the fascinating rainforest ecosystem.

The biological station Un poco del Chocó offers a two-weeks course in tropical ecology & conservation which deals with the ecology, biodiversity and conservation of tropical ecosystems both in theoretical lectures and practical modules.

Field investigations at the biological station Un poco del Chocó are mostly conducted and supervised in the fields of ornithology, entomology, pollination ecology and biodiversity inventories.

We also welcome scientists to conduct their field studies for independent research projects in the nature reserve.

We welcome skilled professionals to join our team, and support our research and conservation work.

Volunteers help us to coordinate our day-to-day activities to manage the nature reserve, collect field data, supervise research projects, and conduct our conservation work.
